Fetishes & Talens — Spirit-Bound Objects of the Garou Nation
A Fetish is an object with a spirit permanently bound inside via a Rite; the spirit's nature determines its powers. A Talen is a single-use Fetish — more common, and freed on use. In RbN, the Gauntlet is damaged, so creating a new Fetish requires Storyteller involvement. The Garou bane is obsidian, not silver — any Fetish referencing silver has been adapted accordingly.
- Harmony Flute ✅ — Played, forces aggressive listeners to make a Rage roll or cease hostilities. Prized by Children of Eshtarra and Fianna diplomats.
- Magpie's Swag ✅ — A bag holding three times its apparent volume. Essential kit for Silent Striders.
- Lie Detector Earring ⭐ — Vibrates when the wearer is lied to verbally. Invaluable for Veil Keepers operatives.
- Eternal Waterskin ✅ — Always contains fresh water, regardless of environment.
- Nyx's Bangle ⭐ (Ragabash favored) — +4 dice to nighttime Stealth; eyes glow faintly, so plan accordingly.
- Tick-Trace Fetish Radio 🔶 (Glass Walkers favored) — Tracks targets in both material world and Penumbra; requires Storyteller coordination.
- Apeskin ⭐ (Metis and Lupus) — Suppresses obsidian vulnerability for a full day, letting the Garou pass fully as human.
- Fang Dagger ✅ (combat) — Doubles damage-roll successes on activation; aggravated damage. Mind the Veil outside controlled areas.
- Partridge Wing ✅ — Grants flight at running speed for one scene — valuable mobility in a vertically-layered city.
- Spirit Whistle 🔶 (Theurge favored) — Drives spirits away in a directional cone. ST involvement generally required for Penumbra scenes.
Talens: Nightshade Talen ✅ (turns the user to living shadow for a scene), Bane Arrow Talen 🔶 (aggravated damage to spirit/Wyrd-corrupted entities), Healing Talen ⭐ (heals one aggravated health level), Lune's Touch Talen 🔧 — since Luna is imprisoned in RbN, this draws on stored Lune-spirit energy rather than her direct blessing, making it significantly rarer; each requires a Storyteller-witnessed negotiation scene to create.
Tokens — Objects of Fae Power for the Lost
Every Token has a Drawback (a small cost) and most have a Catch (a dread cost that activates the Token without spending Glamour). Thanks to proximity to the Isle of Purgatory — which remains half in the Dreaming — Tokens are more accessible in Basilica Purgatory than almost anywhere else. The Lost Mirror maintains an active Token trading economy.
- Heartstring Thread ✅ — Tied between two objects/people, reveals if either is moved, harmed, or lying. Used by faction members to monitor Dreaming gate integrity.
- Goblin Coin ✅ — Given only freely by a goblin; removes the Drawback from one Goblin Contract use.
- Mien Cloak ⭐ (Darkling, Fairest) — Resists being remembered by observers. Essential Veil maintenance for Lost whose Mien bleeds through.
- Hedge Window ⭐ — See through any other Hedge Window you've touched, for up to ten minutes. A key intelligence asset for gate monitoring.
- Pledge Stone ⭐ — Warms when held by an oath-keeper, cools for an oath-breaker. Important for diplomatic work between Lost, Dreamborne, and Wyrd-born.
- Dreamcatcher Shield 🔧 — Filters intrusive dream-fragment noise near unstable gates; +2 dice to Clarity rolls nearby. Adapted for RbN's cracked-open Dreaming.
- Wyrd Brand 🔶 — Marks the bearer as under a specific Wyrdborn's protection. Real protection, real obligation — requires ST approval and background integration.
- Hedge-Spun Armor ✅ (Ogre, Beast favored) — 1–3 points of armor woven from Hedge materials; may occasionally assert its own will near strong Wyrd energy.
- Gate Key of the Breaking World ⚠ (RbN Original) — Opens or closes any unsealed Arcadia gate. Not available at creation — a Storyteller reward for demonstrated service to the Dreaming's stabilization.
Artifacts — Cross-Splat Magical Objects
Not tied to a single splat's power system — genuine supernatural items any appropriately-positioned character might encounter.
- Mirror of Honest Reflection ⭐ — Reveals emotional truth without compelling speech. A favorite of negotiators and Veil Keepers investigators.
- The Chronicler's Seal ⭐ (Archivists especially) — Documents sealed with it can't be falsified or destroyed. The Shadow Directorate would love to own it.
- Veil-Glass ⭐ (Veil Keepers, Hunters, Admins) — Reveals whether an observed individual is supernatural or has recently used supernatural ability.
- The Weighing Bowl 🔶 — Heats when either party in a sworn agreement intends deception. Used historically in Shadow Directorate treaty negotiations.
- The Ossian Ledger ✅ (Ossian Sorcerers, Archivists) — Writing in blood is permanently preserved; previous owners' entries can sometimes be read in dreams.
- Sundering Shard ⚠ (RbN Original, ST only) — A fragment of crystallized Wyrd energy that amplifies nearby abilities but attracts Wyrdstorm-born anomalies over time.
Relics — Objects of Historical and Spiritual Significance
Unlike Artifacts, Relics become what they are through time and event rather than active construction.
- Eshtarra's Tear ⚠ (Children of Eshtarra especially) — A crystallized drop from Eshtarra's Ascension; boosts healing/restoration Gifts. Treated as sacred stewardship, not personal ownership.
- Fragment of the Pattern Web ⚠ (Sorcerers) — Lets a Sorcerer ignore one point of Difficulty on a school-based roll once per scene. The God Machine Guild would very much like to acquire one.
- Lilith's Covenant Token 🔶 (any Vampire bloodline) — Given at the moment of choosing rebirth; pulses with warmth during genuine spiritual crisis, reducing a Willpower roll's difficulty by 2.
- Silent Strider Waystone ✅ (Silent Striders primarily) — Senses direction and distance to other Waystones the same Garou has placed; limited impression-based information transfer.
- The Ossian's Last Working ⚠ (Ossian Sorcerers) — A sealed pre-Sundering ritual allowing one-time communication with a specific dead person. Irreversible, and it attracts attention.
- Hellion Dharma Artifact ✅ (Hellion, Dharma-specific) — An object absorbed into a Dharma's cultivation practice over long use; +1 die to cultivation rolls. Devil Tigers favor forged weapons; Incandescent Owls favor legal or ceremonial instruments; Hymn of the Autumnal Vigil practitioners favor ink and paper; Dancing Dragons favor percussion or performance instruments; Spirit of the Living Earth practitioners favor carved stone or living wood. Discuss the specific object and its history with your Mentor.
Devices — Technocracy Salvage & Omega Crate Technology
Not supernatural, but their capabilities exceed what the Consensus deems possible. Primarily the domain of Ghostwrights, God Machine Guild members, and tech-focused characters across all splats.
- Aether Resonance Detector ⭐ (God Machine Guild, Ghostwrights) — Detects Aether Reactor signatures; notoriously inaccurate but invaluable for mapping hidden infrastructure. The Guild actively suppresses these.
- Consensus Dampener ⭐ (Psychics, Sorcerers) — Disrupts God-Machine Consensus monitoring in a small area for up to an hour. Actively hunted by the Guild; owning one is a known risk category.
- Omega Crate Medical Unit ✅ (Physicians, any) — A self-contained diagnostic/treatment unit; +2 dice to Medicine rolls. Legitimate, valuable, and non-suspicious.
- Neural Interface Rig 🔶 (Ghostwrights primarily) — +2 dice to Computer/Tech rolls when interfaced with Guild-compatible systems; carries a real risk of reverse-connection surveillance.
- Wyrdstorm Shelter Pod ✅ (all splats) — Deployable emergency shelter, 6 hours of full Wyrdstorm protection, single-use.
- Reality Anchor Splinter ⚠ (ST only) — A fragment somehow separated from a Reality Anchor — a theoretical impossibility that nonetheless exists. Dampens local Wyrdstorm effects; makes the Lost uncomfortable; communicates with other Anchors.
- Omega Protocol Uplink ⚠ (Ghostwrights, God Machine Guild) — A direct uplink to the Technocratic Union's deep-space facilities, offering advance manifest access to upcoming Crate drops. Enormous intelligence and economic leverage.
The world ended. The things it left behind did not. What you carry into Basilica Purgatory tells its own story.
